Kinds of Water Forms
Gulfs
A gulf is a part of an ocean or a sea that is partly surrounded by land. Examples of gulfs in Philippine territory are Lingayen Gulf in Pangasinan, Moro Gulf in Zamboanga, and Albay Gulf in Albay.
Albay Gulf lies to the north of the municipality of Donsol, Sorsogon in the Bicol region. It is host to large groups of whale sharks called butanding. The whale sharks’ presence in the gulf ’s waters has earned for Donsol the nickname “whale shark capital of the world.” Whales eat very small plants and animals that live in water forms such as gulfs.
Bays
A bay is a body of water that is partly surrounded by land. It is usually smaller than a gulf. Examples are Manila Bay and Honda Bay in Palawan.
Manila Bay is host to fish like snappers, sea catfish, and anchovies, while Honda Bay is rich in marine life that includes corals, starfish, and different kinds of fish, and plants like algae and sea grass.
