Earth’s Water Forms

Kinds of Water Forms

Oceans

Earth’s largest water form is known as ocean. It covers most of Earth’s surface. With its large amounts of salt, it is also the largest body of saltwater. There are five oceans on Earth. These are:

  1. Pacific Ocean
  2. Atlantic Ocean
  3. Indian Ocean
  4. Southern Ocean
  5. Arctic Ocean

To the east of the Philippines is the Pacific Ocean and to its southwest is the Indian Ocean.

Oceans are home to marine animals like fishes, whales, sharks, dolphins, squids, lobsters, starfish, jellyfish, octopuses, sea horses, stingrays, and corals. They also host plants like seaweeds, algae, kelp, and sea grass. The strong waves of an ocean bring with them enough food supply for the marine creatures in this water form.

Seas

A sea is a large body of saltwater that is smaller than an ocean. Examples are the Philippine Sea and Sulu Sea. These Philippine seas are havens for tuna, sea turtles, sea snakes, shellfish, octopuses, and whale sharks. They also contain coral reefs, where starfish, sea urchins, sea anemones, fishes, clams, crabs, and sea horses live. Plants like seaweeds and sea grass thrive in this water form.
