Components of Blood
The Plasma
The plasma consists mostly of water with salts, protein, and dissolved organic and inorganic compounds. It has a special protein called fibrinogen, which is involved in blood clotting. It also contains antibodies that protect the body against disease-causing microorganisms.
The Red Blood Cells (RBCs)
They are the most numerous cells in the body. They look like small concave discs and contains the pigment hemoglobin, which gives the blood its red color.
RBCs carry oxygen from the lungs to the different cells. They bring back carbon dioxide, the waste gas of the body, to the lungs where it is released from the body through respiration.
