Kinds of Landforms
Cliffs
A cliff is a steep face of rock or soil. An example of this landform are the cliffs made of limestone in El Nido, Palawan. Limestone is a rock that is formed from the remains of marine organisms such as corals.
Plants like ferns, mosses, and grasses grow along cliffs. These plants are mostly wild and untouched by people and other animals because they are difficult to reach.
Plateaus
A plateau is a large, flat area of land on a mountain. Examples of plateaus in the Philippines are Baguio City in Benguet and Tagaytay City in Cavite.
The cool environment in a plateau makes it conducive for growing plants and raising animals. Common plants that grow in plateaus are orchids, berries, lichens, and a variety of wild flowers. Animals like monkeys, bats, and wild pigs live in forests found in plateaus.
Valleys
A valley is a low level place between mountains. In the Philippines, one example is the Cagayan Valley, which lies in the midst of the Cordillera and Sierra Madre mountain ranges.
The rich and fertile soil of valleys makes them excellent places for cultivating various plants and animals. In the Philippines, valleys are grazing areas for farm animals such as cattle and poultry. On the other hand, plants that are usually grown here include rice, corn, peanuts, fruits, and vegetables.
