Kinds of Landforms
Mountains
A mountain is the highest landform on Earth. In the Philippines, the tallest mountain is Mount Apo in Mindanao. Mount Pulag is the highest mountain in Luzon while Mount Kanlaon is the highest mountain in the Visayas.
Different animal and plant species live in the mountains of the Philippines because of their thick forests. The forests support the needs of these plants and animals.
Animals that can be found in Philippine mountains include the spotted deer in the forests of Panay Island, the giant flying fox bat in Bataan and Subic Bay, and the Philippine eagle that can be found in Mindanao, Leyte, Samar, and Isabela rainforests.
Among the many plants in Philippine forests are the waling-waling orchid, which can be found in the forests of Mount Apo. Pitcher-shaped plants or pitcher plants that trap and eat animals as big as rats have been discovered in the highlands of Palawan.
