The Rectangular Coordinate Plane (2)

Notice that the axes divide the coordinate plane into four parts called quadrants. These quadrants are labeled as shown in the figure below.

Note that all points that are on a coordinate axis, like Q(4,  0) and R(0, −2) in the figure, do not belong to any quadrant.

The following table shows the signs of the x- and y-coordinates of points in each quadrant of the coordinate plane.
