Relations

Any set of ordered pairs of real numbers is called a relation.
For example, the set A={(−1, −5), (0, −3), (1, −1), (2, 1)} is a relation.

Example

Which of the following is a relation?

R={−3, −2, −1,  0,  1,  2,  3,  4}
S={(−3, −2),  (−1, 0),  (1, 2),  (3, 4)}


Solution

Set S is a relation but set R is not.
