Effects of Earthquakes

  1. Fires
Strong shocks from earthquakes may cut electrical wirings and fuel pipes. Such cuts can cause fires. More damages such as loss of properties and lives may follow because of fires. In the 1906 earthquake in San Francisco, California, United States, 90% of the damage was caused by fire.
  1. Loss of properties and lives
Strong earthquakes can leave people homeless as damage to properties are incurred during such natural disasters. Earthquakes can also result in loss of lives, especially if the earthquakes are very strong. The strong earthquake that occurred in Bohol in 2013 left many people dead and homeless after old churches, homes, and other structures were destroyed by the earth’s tremors.
