Vegetative Parts of Plants

Bulbs

A bulb consists of a short underground stem with one or more buds. These buds are enclosed in many fleshy leaves that store food. Long, green, and narrow leaves grow from the upper part of the fleshy leaves, and extend above the ground. Roots grow from the base of the bulb. This bulb can grow into a new plant. Onions, lilies, and hyacinths are examples of bulbs.

Corms

A thick underground stem with scaly leaves is called a corm. The nodes of corms develop buds and roots that can grow into new plants. Taro, ube (yam), begonias, and gladiolas are examples of corms.
