In your own way, you can help to conserve water by observing the following guidelines every day:
- Do not let water from a faucet run continuously while you brush your teeth. Doing this can save you around 11 liters of water in a day.
- Do not let water run from a faucet while you rinse dishes or fruits and vegetables. Instead, fill a basin with water in which to rinse the dishes, fruits, or vegetables. Doing this can save you from 550 to 1900 liters of water in a month.
- When washing dishes, do not use too much dishwashing liquid so you do not have to use a lot of water to rinse. Doing this can save you from 190 to 550 liters of water in a month.
- Turn off the faucet after using it. Check that it is not dripping or leaking.
- If you notice faucets leaking, tell your parents or other adults in your family about them so these could be repaired or replaced.
- Help your parents use the water they have collected from rinsing laundry to clean certain areas of the house.
- Water plants using a watering can or a pail and dipper instead of a hose.
- Do not play with water from a hose nor leave it running with water not being used. Water spilling from a hose wastes about 38 liters in a minute.
- Water plants during the cooler parts of the day. In the Philippines, these are in the morning and dusk. Doing this can save you some 1100m liters in a month.
