The Water on Earth

All living organisms on Earth depend on water for survival.

Plants need water to produce their food and grow. Animals need water for drinking. At least 80 percent of the human body is made up of water. The human blood, which is responsible for transporting nutrients and oxygen throughout the body, is made up of some amounts of water. Water also helps your muscles and joints to work smoothly. Scientists have proven that a person can go without food for three weeks but, without water, he or she cannot survive beyond three days.

Bodies of water serve as habitats for aquatic plants and animals.

People use water for cooking, bathing, flushing toilets, washing their clothes and other items, and cleaning. They also utilize water in factories and similar industrial establishments for washing materials, cleaning equipment, cooling down machinery, and related operations.
