Diseases of the Blood
Anemia
Anemia is characterized by an abnormally low number of RBCs or by a decrease in the amount of hemoglobin in the blood. Children with anemia are usually pale and weak and feel easily exhausted. They also experience palpitations and loss of appetite. People with cancer or chronic kidney diseases often develop anemia as a complication of their illness. People with poor intake of iron in their diet also develop anemia.
Leukemia
Leukemia is a kind of cancer that affects the WBCs. This disease occurs when there are too many WBCs in the bloodstream. This causes the person to become vulnerable to anemia, bleeding, or infections.
Hypertension
Hypertension occurs when a person’s blood pressure becomes higher than normal. It damages the heart and arteries. Hypertension may be caused by obesity, excessive eating habits, or lack of exercise.
