Phases of the Moon
Because the moon moves, the changes in its position in relation to Earth and the sun form different phases.
The different appearances or "shapes" of the moon as seen on Earth are known as its phases. You may have wondered why the moon's shape seems to change during certain nights in a month. This happens because the position of the moon in relation to Earth changes as the moon revolves around Earth.
