People and things move because of force. Force is a push or a pull that acts on an object due to its interaction with another object. Force that is applied on an object may cause a change in it — either in its movement, shape, or the direction in which it is moving.
Change in Movement
When you dribble a ball, the force you exert on it is a push. To push on something, you have to apply force that will make the object move away from you. Thus, to dribble a ball, you have to push it away from you and toward the ground or floor.
In a game of tug-of-war, when you bring the rope close to you, you exert a pull on it. To pull on something, you have to apply force that will make the object move toward you.
