Proper Disposal of Waste Materials

Different materials have different properties. Some of these properties can be harmful when they are not used properly. Knowing about them can keep you from getting harmed or hurt while handling materials. The following are some pointers that can guide you:

1. Flammable Materials

  1. Some materials easily catch fire. They are referred to as flammable materials. Examples of these materials that are found in many homes are alcohol, gasoline, diesel, and kerosene. These should be kept in containers that have been labeled correctly and are placed out of the reach of children. If possible, the containers should be stored in a room or shed outside the house. However, if this is not possible, they should be stored in cabinets that are placed away from stoves, heaters, electric wires, and similar things that can cause fires.
  2. When you see containers of flammable materials, never attempt to open them. If you absolutely need them, for example, for a science project, ask an adult to help you with handling the materials.
