Congruence in Right Triangles

Recall that a right triangle has one right angle. See the figure below.

The longest side of a right triangle is called its hypotenuse and the other two sides with the included right angle are called legs.

Congruent right triangles are extensively used in triangular structures, providing strong support for bridges and buildings. Congruent right triangles can be built easily by constructing special segments on some triangles.


A footbridge is an architectural structure that uses congruent right triangles for support.
