Applications of Linear Functions
Using the equation that you obtained in the previous page, it is easy to determine the number of sacks of rice that can be sold at a given price. Suppose a sack of rice will be sold at ₱1600, how many sacks of rice can be sold?
Since y represents the price per sack of rice, let and solve for x.
| = | 2000 | Given | ||
| = | 2000 | Substitute 1600 for y. | ||
| 5x | = | Subtract 1600 from both sides. | ||
| 5x | = | 400 | Simplify. | |
| x | = | Divide both sides by 5. | ||
| x | = | 80 | Simplify. |
Thus, if a sack of rice can be sold at ₱1600, then 80 sacks of rice can be sold.
