Seasons on Earth
Summer
When the tilt is oriented toward the sun as what occurs during the months of May, June, and July, the Northern Hemisphere experiences summer, the warmest season of the year. The places on or near the equator receive more intense heat and experience higher temperature during the day. Another significant effect is the occurrence of summer solstice or longer hours of daylight in the Northern Hemisphere.
Winter
While the Northern Hemisphere experiences summer, the Southern Hemisphere experiences winter, the season of the year when the least warmth is received. During this time, the Southern Hemisphere is tilted away from the sun and experiences shorter hours of daylight and
longer hours of darkness; thus, nighttime is longer than daytime.
