The Stomach

The stomach is a baglike organ located in the upper part of the abdomen. It has glands that produce gastric juices to digest the food received in it. The stomach also produces the enzymes pepsin and rennin, which change fats and proteins to simpler forms.

The food is churned for three to four hours in the stomach and turned into chyme, a soupy substance, and expelled into the small intestine.
