Importance of Electricity

Power Consumption

Power is defined as the amount of electrical energy used within a specified period. Electrical power is expressed in terms of watts (W). All electrical devices have specific wattage ratings. For instance, the wattage labels on light bulbs indicate the amount of power they consume.

Electric Bill

Electricity is not free. In the Philippines, electrical power supplier such as the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) charges their consumers monthly for the use of electricity.

Your electric bill is calculated in kilowatt-hours(kWh) or the number of kilowatts of power multiplied by the hours of use in the monthly billing period. To monitor electricity consumption, Meralco and other power companies install electric meters on residential houses and other establishments.
