Parthenogenesis
Parthenogenesis is a type of asexual reproduction which is very common in insects, worms, fishes, and lizards. In this process, the egg develops without being fertilized. Instead, the egg cell produced by the female develops into a new individual. Organisms that undergo this type of reproduction normally reproduce sexually. Parthenogenesis happens depending on the situation. For example, Komodo dragons normally find mates to reproduce. However, when there are no males during a breeding cycle and a female is in good shape to produce healthy eggs, the Komodo dragon can undergo parthenogenesis. Other animals that can reproduce through parthenogenesis include hammerhead sharks, mole salamanders, and bees.
