Sound Energy

Most likely, no day passes without you hearing a single sound. However, did you know that too much sound can also be harmful to you, especially to your ears and your sense of hearing? This is when too much sound results in noise, or unpleasant sound. Noise caused by such sources as music systems on high volume can damage sensitive parts of your ear and cause both temporary or permanent loss of hearing.

To protect your ear from the effects of noise, you may observe the following pointers:

  1. Stay away from noisy places. When you are exposed to loud noises, tiny hairs inside your ears may be damaged and this can lead to loss of your sense of hearing.
  2. Avoid listening to sounds at very close range and on regular basis. If you must listen at close range, turn down the volume of the sounds you are listening to, especially when you are hearing them through gadgets like music players and mobile phones.
  3. Wear hearing protection such as ear muffs or ear plugs when engaging in activities that create a lot of sound, such as woodworking and welding. Ear muffs and ear plugs lessen the sounds that are transmitted to your ears.
