Sound energy is energy that is produced when vibrations travel through matter. Vibrations are quick back-and-forth movements of matter that cause it to produce sound.

People and animals make sounds. Musical instruments, car horns, house appliances, and construction equipment are just a few of the countless objects that produce sounds through vibrations. These vibrations travel usually through air, but also through such media as water and steel.
