Properties of Sound
Pitch
Musical instruments produce either high or low sounds. The highness and lowness of a sound is called pitch.
A low-pitched sound is produced by slow vibrations. A high-pitched sound is produced by fast vibrations. A thin string of a violin will produce high-pitched sounds, while a thicker one will produce low-pitched sounds. Similarly, a tight string will produce a high-pitched sound while a loose one will produce a low-pitched sound.
