Properties of Parallelograms (2)

Example 4

Find the values of the variables in the parallelogram.

Solution

Since SA ¯ and EV ¯ are opposite sides, SA ¯ EV ¯ . Hence,

SA =EV
a =b.

Similarly, SE ¯ and AV ¯ are opposite sides. Thus, SE ¯ AV ¯ . It follows that

SE =AV
a+b =3b6.

Since a=b, substitute b for a in a+b=3b6.

b+b =3b6
2b =3b6
6 =b

Thus, a=b=6.
