There are two major classifications of verbs in terms of form—the regular and the irregular verbs. Most verbs are regular verbs and they form their simple past tense by simply adding a –d or an –ed to their base form.
Examples:
| pray | prayed |
| walk | walked |
| love | loved |
| guide | guided |
Regular verbs ending in –y form their simple past tense by changing –y to –i and adding –ed.
Examples:
| cry | cried |
| try | tried |
| hurry | hurried |
| bully | bullied |
