Ecological Relationships in an Ecosystem

Predation

Predation involves a violent fight between predator and prey, with one killing the other to survive. The predator is the organism that seeks, kills, and eats its prey to prolong its own life. The prey is the organism that the predator takes as food. Examples of predators are animals like lions, wolves, cats, and eagles while common examples of prey are deer, mice, frogs, insects, fish, and small birds.

Scavenging

Scavenging is a unique relationship between two organisms and takes place when a living organism feeds on the remains of a dead animal. A vulture feeding on the carcass of a dead cow or a pack of hyenas feeding on the remains of a dead zebra that had been killed by a lion are two examples of this kind of ecological interaction.
