Stormy Weather
Stormy weather in tropical countries like the Philippines is indicated by severe weather disturbances. Storms are often caused by approaching low-pressure areas. In a low-pressure area, winds blow toward a center with low pressure air and produce a counterclockwise circulation pattern due to the Coriolis effect, which is the bending of winds caused by Earth's rotation. Places with stormy weather experience the following conditions:
- Strong winds cause electrical posts to break or fall, uproot trees, and destroy properties.
- Heavy rains bring floods and cause landslides.
- The temperature drops below normal readings.
