Earth’s water is recycled through the water cycle. In this process, solar energy, or energy from the sun, causes liquid and frozen water molecules to evaporate and form water vapor. The energy is then transferred to the atmosphere as the water vapor condenses into clouds. The clouds then move over ground and bodies of water and drop precipitation, and the whole cycle is repeated.
Without the sun, the water cycle would not even get started. There would be no evaporation, clouds, and rain. Water on Earth would remain on the ground and in bodies of water, where they would freeze during the colder months in some parts of the world. Without the sun’s heat, frozen water would remain as is, and the effects of such a scenario can be disastrous.
