Forms of Linear Equations

Example

Write an equation of the line containing the point (9,3) and with slope −4. Express your final answer in general form.

Solution

Using the point-slope form with ( x 1 , y 1 )=(9,3) and m=4, you will get the following:

y3=4[ x(9) ] y3=4(x+9) y3=4x36

If you will write the last equation in general form, you will have:

4x+y+33=0.
