The form of a personal pronoun changes according to its number and person or whether it is used as the subject or object of a sentence.
PERSON | SUBJECT | OBJECT | ||
---|---|---|---|---|
Singular | Plural | Singular | Plural |
First Person (Person speaking) |
I | we | me | us |
Second Person (Person spoken to) |
you | you | you | you |
Third Person (Person spoken about) |
he, she, it | they | him | her |
Mistakes are often made while using the pronouns I and me when there is more than one subject or object. If you are in doubt divide the sentences in two short sentences.
Example: Johann and I/me love to play soccer.
Johann love(s) to play soccer.
I love to play soccer.
You would never say – Me love to play soccer.
Therefore the correct sentence should read – Johann and I love to play soccer.
