Read the following sentences:

  • He walked quickly.

  • The students sat silently.

In the above sentences, the adverbs, quickly and silently modify the verbs walked and sat, respectively.

Read the following sentences:

  • The guests whom I have met were extremely generous with their time.

  • She wore an outrageously expensive dress at the party.

In the above sentences, the adverbs extremely and outrageously modify the adjectives generous and expensive, respectively.

Read the following sentences:

  • We arrived in Grandma's farm too quickly.

  • She danced very gracefully.

In the above sentences, the adverbs, too and very modify the adverbs quickly and gracefully, respectively.
