The pH Scale

Other liquid detergents and soaps are promoted as having acidic or basic pH. The pH scale is a measure of the acidity or basicity of a solution, as follows:

Acidic: solutions with pH less than 7.00

Basic: solutions with pH more than 7.00

Neutral: substances like distilled water with pH equal to 7.00

Notice that the stronger the acid, the lower is its pH value; the stronger the base, the higher is its pH value. The pH of a solution is measured by a pH paper or a pH meter. The latter produces a more accurate and direct measure of pH because it can measure pH values up to 0.001 unit.
