Parts of Solutions
What do you think will happen when you pour a spoonful of salt into a glass of water? Will the salt crystals disappear or will they remain at the bottom of the glass? The salt (a substance) will dissolve in water (a substance) and this will result in the formation of a brine solution.

The particles of solutions are too tiny to be seen by the naked eye. Thus, solutions appear to be homogeneous. Solutions also cannot be filtered because particles of solutions can pass through the holes of filter paper. And unlike colloids, solutions do not scatter light.
A solution is made up of two parts: the solute, which is the material present in smaller amount, and the solvent, which is the substance present in larger amount. The solvent is also referred to as the substance that dissolves, while the solute is the substance that is dissolved.
A solution that has water as the solvent is generally termed as an aqueous solution.
