Formulating the Hypothesis
A research problem that is presented in declarative form is considered a research hypothesis. After interesting and testable research problems have been proposed, one or more hypotheses are developed.
You have learned that a hypothesis is an educated guess that is made based on what the person conducting the study or project already knows about a problem. It gives a possible explanation for what causes something to occur and addresses the causes that lead to the effects.
Three Ways of Stating Hypotheses
Hypotheses may be stated in three formats:
1. Null Form
The null form of a hypothesis states that there is no significant difference between the results of two conditions or situations being tested.
- Example:
- Varying salt concentrations will not affect rice seeds germination.
