Compound adjectives are made up of more than one word. They can be written as one word, as hyphenated words, or as separate words.
One word - worldwide, easygoing, underpaid, warmhearted
Hyphenated words - warm-blooded, long-legged, cone-shaped, narrow-minded
Separate words - hard up, whole wheat, top secret, number one
Adjectives formed with three or more words are usually hyphenated - down-to-earth, up-to-date
However, there is no definite rule and you may use any one style to form a compound adjective. If you are not sure which form to use, consult a good dictionary.
Remember not to mix up compound adjectives with compound nouns.
