Nouns that refer to the male gender are in the masculine form - emperor, gander, groom, men, nephew, boy, landlord, etc.

Nouns that refer to living things but may be either male or female are said to be of the common gender - educator, orator, lawyer, teacher, neighbor, pig, fowl, cattle, etc.
Nouns that refer to nonliving things and plants are in the neuter gender - table, chair, book, tree, shrub, etc.
