Possessive Nouns

Read the following sentences:

  • have a complete thought
  • The screams of the girl could be heard in the corridor.
  • The friends of Jerry decided to go sailing.

These sentences show possession in a rather long way. Now, read the following:

  • The girl's screams could be heard in the corridor.
  • Jerry's friends decided to go sailing.

Girl's and Jerry's are possessive nouns. A possessive noun shows possession. It changes its form to show that it owns or is closely related to something else.
