Possessive Nouns and Possessive Pronouns

Read the following sentences.

  • The bag of Jasmine is on the chair.

  • The car of my sister-in-law was stolen.

These sentences show possession in a rather long way. Now, read the following:

  • Jasmine's bag is on the chair.

  • My sister-in-law's car was stolen.

Jasmine's and sister-in-law's are possessive nouns. A possessive noun shows possession.

It changes its form to show that it owns or is closely related to something else.
