Perfect Tenses

The future perfect tense of a verb is used to talk about an action that has started and will be completed at a definite time in the future or before another activity in the future.

This tense is formed in two parts - two helping verbs + past participle of the main verb.

will/shall + have + past participle

Examples:

  • I shall have submitted my report before 5:00 PM today.

  • By Thursday next week, the delegates will have registered.

In the first sentence, the report is not submitted but the speaker will definitely submit it before a specific time in the future.

In the next sentence, the registration of the delegates may or may not have started but will be completed in the future.
