Reflexive, Intensive, and Indefinite Pronouns

The intensive pronoun is very similar to the reflexive pronoun in form - myself, yourself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, and themselves - but differs in use.

While reflexive pronouns refer back to the subject and are very important to the sentence, intensive pronouns add emphasis to a noun or pronoun in the same sentence.

Intensive pronouns can be removed from the sentence without changing its thought.

Intensive pronouns usually come after the subject of the sentence.

Examples:

Reflexive:
  • I did my homework by myself.
  • I did my homework by. (incomplete)
Intensive:
  • I myself did my homework.
  • I did my homework. (complete)
