Mass, Count, and Collective Nouns

Use quantifiers to indicate the amount or quantity of mass nouns since they cannot be counted individually.

Examples:

  • Two cups of flour
  • One cup of sugar
  • One tablespoon of coffee
  • One cup of milk

The words cup and tablespoons are called quantifiers.

Quantifiers answer the question "How much/many?" or "How little/few?"

Use words such as much, a lot of, a little, or a few to form the plural of mass nouns.

Examples:

  • a glass of water
  • a kilo of rice
  • two bars of soap
  • much coffee
  • a lot of sugar
  • a little milk
