Future Tense of Verbs

Future tense is a verb tense used to express actions expected to happen in the future.

Examples:

  • Mico will travel to many places around the world.
  • He will wear nice clothes and will eat delicious food.
  • I shall be with him all the time.
  • Together, we shall try to fulfill our dreams.
  • Our friends will pray for our success.

The verb phrases will travel, will wear, will eat, shall be, shall try, and will pray are in the future tense. They tell you about the actions that are expected to take place sometime in the future.


The future tense is expressed by using shall and will with the base or simple form of the main verb.

Read the following additional examples:

  • Tomorrow, my brother will leave for China to work as an architect.
  • Tonight, we will hold a party for him.
  • Next year, he will come home for a vacation.

Time expressions like tomorrow, tonight, next week, next year, this month, and others signal future action.
